11-year old Jed Writes about Silver

In my weekly silver stock commentary #27, for March 19, 2004, at http://www.bibleprophesy.org/goldismoney/SS27.html

I included the following commentary written by Jed, which was very well received as indicated by the 75 positive comments that follow below.

Out of the mouths of babes.  This week, an 11-year-old who I will call Jed wrote:  "I think people should buy silver because they might be rich in the future.  They might be rich because we might change back to using silver.  Also if people don't start buying silver they might be poor in the future."

That says it all, doesn't it?  What an incredible introduction to an essay on silver!  Even an 11-year-old can understand and express the essential fundamentals of the silver market--perhaps more simply and eloquently than I can.  Silver is real money, and paper is not!  The wisdom of Jed continues:  "But also there's a downside if you buy a lot of silver right now you might be poor right now so don't buy as much as possible.  When I got my first [batch] of silver I thought that I should sell it all.  I sold [half] of it but then I realized how much more money it is than a green piece of paper.  So now whenever I get money I buy silver."  I love it!  Jed recognizes that becoming rich requires saving money, and that requires you to not spend recklessly, and he understands that saving in silver is best!

Jed concludes:
"I think people should buy silver right now because it isn't that much money.  And in the future it will be a lot of money.  I think silver will be at $13 in the next year.  I think it will be that much money because more and more people are starting to realize that silver is worth a lot so the price will go up."

I think Jed is a very bright kid.  And I also think that his wisdom and market commentary is far superior to most of the market commentary you will ever read on silver.  His commentary even included a price prediction, followed by a solid reason why that price should be reached!  Thank you Jed!

In the interest of full disclosure, Jed has been investing in silver since $5.25/oz. a few months ago, and he's been watching the price rise since then.  Before he wrote his commentary, I told Jed, "The better you write, the more you will be paid."  The ultimate test of the value of Jed's commentary is your feedback.  Therefore, I have decided to do the following:  I did not tell Jed this, but I have decided to pay Jed one silver quarter (worth about $1.35) for every positive email I receive (minus one silver quarter for each negative email) in the next week that mentions Jed by name.  Send your comments, rebukes or encouragement for Jed, to... (Since the week is over, I'm no longer collecting emails about Jed's comments)

  1. ------------
    Cheers to Jed!
  2. ------------

    Hi,

I hope this email is delivered within the one week period ...
Give JED my best ... he deserves a reward for being so aware at so
    young an age ...

He ahs more wisdom than nearly ALL the adults I know!

    Thanks,
  3. ------------ SEND JED THE QUARTER!
  4. ------------
Tell Jed I think he's right.  It took me a month to convince my wife to buy silver but we just bought 2500 oz, and I hope to convince her soon to buy another 2500.

Both of you are doing a good job
  5. ------------
I think the kid is very perceptive in an unperceptive culture.  He gets my positive feedback.
  6. ------------
Positive... give him a silver quarter!
  7. ------------
Keep encouraging Jed, He's doing great.

A fellow silver (and gold) saver/investor.
  8. ------------
    Jason,

Jedd is a very wise young man. May he positively influence others for years to come. May both of you continue to do good works.
Thanks to both of you for your invaluable insights.

    Sincerely,
  9. ------------
    Hi Jason,
Not only do I think you are correct in your evaluation of the Ag world, I think JED has demonstrated great clarity and purity in his analysis. If the tarnished manipulators could revert to such purity, they might know peace and prosperity in the process. Not to mention sleep better as well.
    Kind Regards,
  10. ------------
Please pay him a silver quarter for my response. I wish my 10 year old
    is as savvy as Jed.
  11. ------------Mr. Hommel —
I agree with Jed.   expresses himself well.  My guess is that not only does this young man write well (better than many who are much older), I'll bet Jeb is also being raised right.  Furthermore, I will bet he is being raised a Christian.

    Best wishes,
  12. ------------
JED IS OBVIOUSLY FROM A GOOD GENE POOL, I GET THE FEELING THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE WILL BE WORKING FOR JED ONE DAY!!
JUST A SHORT NOTE TO JED: METALS AND COMMODITIES WON'T ALWAYS DO THE TRICK IN THE FUTURE, WHEN INTEREST RATES RISE COMMODITIES WILL FALL , SO BE VERSATILE . REMEMBER 7.25 COMPOUNDED DOUBLES YOUR MONEY IN 10 YEARS.
COMPOUND INTEREST IS THE EIGHTH WONDER OF THE WORLD.
THE MARK OF A SHREWD INVESTOR IS NOT ONLY KNOWING TODAY BUT SUCESSFULLY AUGURING THE FUTURE , ALWAYS STAY ONE JUMP AHEAD OF THE HERD TO KEEP FROM GETTING TRAMPLED.
    BEST WISHES
  13. ------------
    Hi Jason!

I'm impressed by your Silver Report.  I received my first copy today and read the whole thing.

I enjoyed Jed's comments wholeheartedly, pay him now and encourage him in the future.
  14. ------------
    Jason,

I'd have to say that Jed has a head start then most of my friends - he
actually understands what money is - and it is not green pieces of
    paper.
    Give the boy his quarter!
  15. ------------
I think Jed is on his way to becoming competition for you, Jason! And that's a good thing, the more competition we have in getting the word out about the silver story the sooner the manipulations will end for good. The masses need to hear about it. Give the kid another 2 bits.
    Best,
  16. ------------
This kid is right on. Now can you find out what he thinks of Peak Oil. This issue will be the defining one for years to come for all of us, but more so for those that are young like Jed. Silver and gold will become the only way you will pay for the energy to run your life.
  17. ------------
Amazing......ive been telling grown ups to buy as much silver as they can.. and they all look at me with blank faces even after the supply demand fundamentals are shown to them LOL this 11 year old is smarter than most of the adults... Jed this is a once in a life time opportunity... all who listen to this bright young man are going to be wealthy... buy all the physical silver you can. take physical delivery and wait 2 to 3 years. did you also know that there is only a 15% capital gains tax on the silver bullion after the coins are in your possession for 1 year?? only 15%.....
THIS IS TRULY THE OPPORTUNITY OF A LIFE TIME......
           VERY NICE job Jed.........
[Jason notes that since there are no reporting requirements for buying or selling silver, that the capital gains tax is effectively zero.]
  18. ------------

    I like your thinking Jed!!

I wish that I knew what you do when I was your age...... I watched
    silver go
    to $50 and I didn't have any!!

    Best wishes
  19. ------------
    Hi Jason,
we are silver investors in Australia and we think Jed is right on the money!!! Go Jed and go Silver!!!
                      regards from down under,
  20. ------------
Go Jed, bust Jason!  You are right on.

    Regards,
  21. ------------
    Jason:
Jed is on the right track. Tell him to keep up the good work!
  22. ------------

KID IS QUITE RIGHT ABOUT SILVER GOING UP IN PRICE..........IF YOU HAVE A LOT YOU MAY MAKE A SMALL FORTUNE SOME DAY.
I'D LIKE TO BUY MORE BULLION BUT SCOTIA BANK WHICH SELLS GOLD AND SILVER BULLION DOES REGISTER YOU, SOMETHING,THAT  I ABSOLUTELY DETEST AND WILL NOT DO.

SO ALL I CAN DO IS BUY COINS OR SILVER STOCKS WHICH AT THE MOMENT DO NOT MAKE MUCH FOR ME AT THE MOMENT.
    TWO BITS FOR THE KID.

  23. ------------

Jason,  Jed is brighter than all the professional analysts put together.  Send him a bonus!

  24. ------------
He's smarter than your average kid. Funny thing is he is also smarter
than your average adult when it comes to valuing real money--silver.

I like Jed and look forward to his stock picking someday!
  25. ------------ Hi Jason

I think Jed has given us a glimpse on the  shape of things to come...
He not only points  to the right way re. basic money management and  thriftness,
but he also recognises the timelessness of "real value" embodied in silver.

I think he ought to be handsomely rewarded.
  26. ------------
    Dear Jed.

It is encouraging to hear your fresh yet wise words in regard of silver.

Boy, you state the obvious, but since it is so blatantly obvious, many simply do not notice.

What a paradox! Silver seems to be so abundant that it has become invisible to the investment world.

When they wake up from their slumber, silver will be the scarcest commodity in the world and the most sought after. Everybody will be shedding 'moon tears'.

A pure bright silver dollar coin. What a beautiful and veritable sight to behold!!!

Jed, you and all of us have to thank your kind mentor dear Jason for showing the way. This quest is not only for profit but for beauty, honesty and truthfulness: foundational perennial American and universal values.
Keep piling up silver dear Jed!!!
  27. ------------In regards to "Jed".  You can tell him what Gary North said about upper class people and lower class people.  The upper class plans for the future.  They save.  The lower class just worries about the present.  If they've got it, they spend it.
  28. ------------
How can I not put in an 'attaboy for Jed! By the way that is my nickname.

How I wish I had that much wisdom and common-sense when I was eleven! I would not be working for a living now!
  29. ------------
Give that boy his silver quarter---he deserves it!
This is a positive reply.  Smart kid!
  30. ------------
    1) give the kid a quarter on my behalf i like his comments.
  31. ------------
Please tell Jed to keep the info coming. I wish my family could have
Jed's wisdom. It is slowly sinking in as I forward Jason's emails.

    Thanks,
  32. ------------
    Right on Jed, Right on.

Nice of you to do this for Jed, and a nice way to communicate the
    silver
    story.
  33. ------------Give Jed a quarter for us!  He has it right on.
  34. ------------Very few people think outside of the matrix, let alone a young person.  Go Jed!!!
  35. ------------

    Good morning Jason,

Jed’s story reminded me of Jesus first visit to the Temple as a young lad. >From the mouths of babes comes the truth. Then how about 12 or 13 year old shepherd boy David and his words “who is this uncircumcised Philistine”?

It has become a habit of mine to listen to these youngsters’ words of “wisdom”; I’m 68 and counting.

BTW I’m refurbishing my old “59 Chevy flat bed with air shocks for heavy loads.
  36. ------------
The young lad is absolutely correct - silver will continue to rise quite steadily for quite some time. I am willing to say his prediction understates silver's rise. I say $20 silver by the end of 2004!!!

I have been buying silver since it was in the $4.00/oz. price range. In fact my average buy price is approximately $4.30 for about $1800 face pre 1964 US coinage.

    Keep up the great work
  37. ------------
What a wonderful article.  I certainly wish I was as well versed as Jed when I was 11 yrs old.  But its never too late. I'm 45 now, better late than never.

OK, short but sweet...I have been teetering on buying more bullion.  I own 110 ounces and some coin. I am buying 200 ounces of bullion next week from cheaper gold.com.

There, an 11 year old influenced  a 45 year old.

Thanks Jed.  keep buying and learning...and writing!  :-)

    Sincerely,
  38. ------------
I nominate Jed to take over for Alan Greenspan!

Are you sure he's only 11? Everything I read on teh Internet has to be taken with a grain of salt...

    Ciao,
  39. ------------
Good on you Jed, and good on you Jason.
Jason, please pay Jed the Quarter. When you and I meet, I will
    recompense
you the fee for the advice.
    Regards,
  40. ------------
    Jed is a smart kid

    He'll be a happy kid too - let's see, 7245 x 0.25 = $1811.25 face value = 1295 oz silver x $7.53/oz = $9751

  41. ------------Jed"s a smart kid. Great article. Keep up the good work...
  42. ------------
A couple of Jeds comments that I found particularily
    insightful:

"Also if people don't start buying silver they might
    be poor in the future."
    -There is a future and....

"but then I realized how much more money it is than a
    green piece of paper."
    - we have choices.

It appears that Jeds clear thinking affords him
increasing options. I pray he keep on the one path and
continue to hold truth as a beacon in his life.

I get the following from Jeds perspective:
-The beauty and inherent value of silver is similar to
truth in that it is pure and needs no contrived
    support.....Evidently a good choice.

    - That the "green paper" is not money,, it is in fact
supported through deception and chaos. That it is
surrounded in contention. Probably something best
avoided by those who want to keep their options and
    choices available..
  43. ------------ Jed sounds like a young Warren Buffet as Buffet bought silver in the $5.xx range as well.  Way to go Jed!
  44. ------------
I like the reasoning that Jed uses to explain silver investment! Way to go kid!!!
  45. ------------
Heck, Jason. If this is all you need, give the kid a silver quarter.
Reminds me of myself in the sixties. I'd been collecting silver coins,
and at one point I bought a role of halves from the bank which turned
out to be uncirculated 1967 Canadians (that year had an animal instead
of the traditional coat of arms)... sold them to a dealer, and was
forever sorry that I did. He's learned a lesson which will hopefully
serve him in good stead years later.

    Wish him my best.
  46. ------------
I wish that I was as smart back when I was 11 years old.
P.S.  How many times can I write?
  47. ------------
Good ideas by this kid, he deserves a reward. I wish I thought like that at that age.
  48. ------------ At this rate Jed might be rich before he is 12. I will pass his advice on to my 10 year old granddaughter.

  49. ------------
    Great Job JED!!!!
    What an essay!!!
at least JED can understand the basis of sound money!
  50. ------------
I think he's right on target, and as you said, a very bright kid - the
    kind that is going
to be VERY wealthy when he actually works full time.

Give him a lot of encouragement.
  51. ------------
p.s. I think jed's comments on silver were right on.
  52. ------------
As my father said, " A word of encouragement is worth far more than any
dollar because it continues to pay for a lifetime". So, pay Jed for two
reasons, he's right and I always want to encourage a kid to think!
  53. ------------
    Jason,

I will give Jed positive, passing marks.

However, he should also be able to express an understanding of
volatility - that long-term uptrends can also have major downtrends. He
should be able to talk about strategies like averaging in and managing
    short or intermediate-term losses.

I still award a positive mark, as he understands that one shouldn't put
all of one's money in an investment at one time.

    Overall mark = A-.

    A silver quarter for Jed.
  54. ------------P.S. Great kid commentary!!!!!!!!Pay him some silver!!!Thanks!
  55. ------------Three cheers for Jed!  Pay the wonderkid.
  56. ------------Jed is a very smart boy, he already undersands his bussiness!!
    Regards and shavuah tov from
    ---- in Germany
  57. ------------Hi Jed,

I admire your ability to have certainty about silver in the face of both investor apathy and negative sentiment. That takes guts, and smarts. And in this investment world those two qualities of yours will bring you, I am sure, considerable wealth.

    V. Lindy Spassenko
  58. ------------Jed rules man!

I'm 26 and I live in the Philippines. People here laugh at me because I want to buy silver. They keep pushing me to buy gold but it's too expensive for me.

Besides, I see the potential of silver in the years ahead. I got in at $4.50 and now, it's $7.63 an ounce. who's laughing now?

It's great to see a kid getting into silver. I wish I got in when I was in grade school instead of buying comic books and stuff. I try telling my friends, but only one guy is interested and experimenting.

Tell him to keep a list of all the stuff he wants because when the big one hits, he'll be rich enough to get them all at bargain basement prices!

the philippine banko sentral has ZERO silver since we leased it all somewhere... like we'll ever get it back... what does anyone do with a borrowed bar of silver? use it as a paperweight then send it back to the country of origin? ha!

i wish the philippines had some sort of silver investor guide. our mines have a lot of silver, but for some strange reason 100% delivery gets sent to london and all our jewelers have to buy it at high prices from thailand. ????!!!
  59. ------------   His essay was impressive.  I would nominate him to head the Federal Reserve.  It could use a change of direction.  Hopefully he will take you out for ice cream after his new found riches.

       Thanks for you editorials!!
  60. ------------That was a really funny commentary.  Jed probably stands certainly a good chance of being right (I don't know about $13 right).   I  hope you end up owing him a lot of money!
  61. ------------Please set aside a quarter for Jed because this is a positive note for him. Him and I are in the same 'boat', silver is real money and it is going up in value.

    Thank you,
  62. ------------He definitely deserves his silver quarter!  I like his
price prediction.  I wish my family was as smart as
    Jed.
  63. ------------It is most reassuring to see that someone of Jed's age can be so insightful in identifying the prospects for silver when most of the adult population is oblivious as to what is happening in the silver market.

Please pass on our congratulations to Jed.  Long live the new silver bull market.
  64. ------------Jed i believe your reasoning and beliefs will make you very rich someday. This is my sincere wish for you..and anyone as bright as you deserves to have a lot of money because you will do good things with your money and help other people not as bright as you are..Bravo!
I also have an 11 year old son and this is what he said one day. We were having dinner when my husband pulled out brand new 20 dollar bills in paper money. He got excited and suggested we keep them because they would be worth something someday. I didn't get excited and said "No we would be better off saving coins". Jordan...my son said "Mum is right...someday we will run out of metals..but we will never run out of trees".
i am so encouraged and hopeful for our world when we have young men thinking in this way.  May GOd guide you both with wisdom in your riches!

    Jason
Kudos to you with this one...and all you do!  it is so important to guide and encourage our youth! Happy birthday
    sherry
  65. ------------Hi Jason,

Way to go JED. Wish we were as smart as you. But we are learning.  We got in at $6.79, go silver GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  66. ------------Great to hear that some young minds are so well anchored..
As a point of interest is he buying 1 oz. silver coins?

    JD
  67. ------------WELL, MR. JED
    MY NAME IS FRED,
IF I WAS LIKE YOU AT  11
    ...I WOULD BE AHEAD!!

    NOW AT 41 YEARS,
I CAN SADLY SHED MY TEARS,
I SEE IN YOU, YOU HAVE A VIEW
    AND NOT TOO MANY FEARS

KEEP A' THINKIN' AS YOU DO
AND I PROMISE SOMETHING WILL COME TRUE
    WHILE I'M STILL WORKIN' HARD
YOU'LL BE RETIRED WEALTHY AT 42!!

    GOD BLESS YOU JED.
  68. ------------Give the kid a coupla bucks. Incisive comentary! Not afraid to preface each statement with " I think". Must watch use of words like,"downside", in the company of other 11 year olds. Chris Paul.
  69. ------------ G'day Jason Hommel,

In an expression of appreciation for both your newsletter emails (which I just recently started reading), and Jed's letter in which he was basically admonishing the wise adage, "Buy Low and Sell High", I vote 'yes' for Jed's early learning !
  70. ------------I liked Jed's commentary. He seems well on his way to becoming a good
writer, a sound investor, and a *thinking* citizen.

Keep up the good work, Jed!
  71. ------------Give the kid a buck, being a young anylist, it is doubtful that he will need it in future but with insightful commentary like that, he wins my vote for junior silver commentator of the year.  How can you beat logic like that?
  72. ------------Dear Jason ,
Let's send Jed a bag full of quarters.  Thanks for all that you do.
  73. ------------Hi Jason, Jed sure has it on the money, if just a few adults had this concept and insight silver would $100 a oz.

Hope to educate my kids in this manor.
  74. ------------He should meet up with my 12 year-old and make financial plans.
  75. ------------Yes, Sir.
I agree. The tough part for me is not being poor now. I am trying to
get all the silver I can. It is hard to avoid over investment when the
    market looks this good.
Jed received only one negative comment:

Negative. jed will prob-CERTAINLY (I'm betting HUGE sums on it) be right for awhile, but if / WHEN we get into a deflationary depression over all this eventually-silver will fall back where it was.....Your understanding of economic history is still somewhat limited compared to Kaplan, ETC.... Where was Jed when I bought silver 20-30 years ago and it went DOWN the whole time. Ie, tell Jed to watch the price and SELL when it is 30-100$ per-- as it will eventually fall just as any object, like a rocket, due to gravity/reality and fact that it ALWAYS has fallen back when it gets moreplentiful..... BR

----------------------------------

I included Jed's commentary for several reasons, in no particular order, as follows.

1.  The basics of sound money are so simple even a young child can understand and articulate them, as Jed clearly proved.
2.  If Jed can understand the difference between paper money and silver, and if Jed can act on that belief, then so can anybody.  His writing and actions can encourage others to also act to buy silver.
3.  It is a among the most severe rebukes possible for an entire generation of INVESTORS to receive when the very best financial advice can be found in the mouths of babes, because it is proof that deception is far too widespread.
4.  It is a among the most severe rebukes possible for an entire generation of ANALYSTS to receive when the very best financial advice can be found in the mouths of babes, because it is proof that deception is far too widespread.
5.  I wanted to encourage Jed to write, and to see the importance and value in writing, arguing, and persuasion.  After all, it is not often that an 11-year-old kid gets the opportunity to get so much positive feedback from writing an essay.  Usually, kids just get a grade, or a star, or told "good job".
6.  I wanted to show my readers the importance of educating the younger generation.
7.  I honestly liked Jed's commentary, and I do think it is better than just about any other commentary on silver out there, because it cuts right to the heart of the entire issue.  Silver is better than paper money.
